Down by as many as 15 points in the first half Wednesday night, Virginia Tech rallied and knocked off Michigan 73-70 in the ACC/Big 10 Challenge at Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Hokies (6-1) never led until guard Seth Allen converted a jumper in the lane with 1:46 left in the game for a 68-67 edge. Allen then added a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 1:02 remaining for a four-point advantage.

Forward Duncan Robinson sank a 3-pointer with 39.6 seconds remaining to pull the Wolverines (5-2) within a point, and an offensive foul on Allen gave Michigan a chance to take the lead. But Zak Irvin, who scored a game-high 23 points, came up short on a fallaway jumper and the Wolverines knocked the rebound out of bounds.

Justin Bibbs hit two foul shots with 3.9 seconds left to make the margin three, and Robinson's attempt at an overtime-forcing 3-pointer rattled in and out just before time expired.

Senior forward Zach LeDay came off the bench to pace Virginia Tech with 18 points. Justin Robinson finished with 11, while Allen and Bibbs each tallied 10 points.

Robinson ended with 15 points for Michigan, while Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman finished with 13 and Moritz Wagner scored 11 points.

The Wolverines appeared ready to dominate the game in the first nine minutes, opening up a 23-8 advantage when senior point guard Derrick Walton, Jr. knocked down a 3-pointer. But the Hokies managed to crawl back within 39-30 at halftime when Robinson drove for a layup just before time expired.

Virginia Tech converted 52.2 percent of its field goals and was magnificent at the foul line, making 19-of-21 for the night and 12-of-12 after halftime.
