CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Freshman guard Bruce Brown hit a big 3-pointer and senior guard Davon Reed sank four free throws down the stretch as Miami held on for a 71-65 victory over Clemson in an Atlantic Coast Conference game on Saturday.

Senior forward Kamari Murphy scored a career-high 15 points for the Hurricanes (18-8, 8-6 in the ACC). Reed finished with 14, center Ebuku Izundu added 12 and guard/forward Anthony Lawrence Jr. had 10 for Miami.

Clemson forward Jaron Blossomgame led all scorers with 16 points. Guard Marcquise Reed added 15, center Elizah Thomas had 12 and guard Shelton Mitchell scored 10 for the Tigers (14-12, 4-10).

Brown's 3-pointer gave Miami some breathing room in the form of a 67-61 lead with 1:34 left in the game. Reed hit the first two of his late free throws with 40 seconds left to make it a 69-63 game and the Tigers could get no closer.

Miami has won four in a row at home over the Tigers.

Both teams started off hot from the field. The Tigers made their first six shots before cooling on their way to shooting 50 percent (14 of 28) for the half and 45.8 (27 of 59) for the game.

The Hurricanes made their first four shots before cooling and finishing at 46.9 percent for the half. They had 12 assists on their 15 field goals (32 attempts) for the half and held a 35-33 lead going into the break. Miami shot 50 percent (28 of 56) for the game.

The biggest lead for either team in the first half was Miami's 31-27 margin at the 6:29 mark, but the Hurricanes doubled that in less than four minutes of the second half in jumping out to a 43-35 advantage before Clemson called a timeout.

That eight-point margin turned out to be the biggest for either team for the game, and the Hurricanes led the rest of the way.

With starting point guard Ja'Quan Newton serving the second of a three-game suspension, Miami was down to eight scholarship players. Seven played and all seven scored.

Miami faces a quick turnaround for its next outing, traveling to Virginia for a Monday night game. Clemson is at Virginia Tech on Tuesday.
