Regular-season champion New Orleans won the Southland Conference tournament Saturday night, outlasting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 68-65 in overtime at Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.
Tevin Broyles led four players in double figures for the top-seeded Privateers (20-11) with 15 points. Conference Player of the Year Erik Thomas added 14, and Christavious Gill and Michael Zeno scored 10 points apiece.
Rashawn Thomas scored a game-high 22 points for the second-seeded Islanders (20-11). Cole Martinez scored 15 points, all from the 3-point line. Joe Kilgore contributed 13 points and Kareem South hit for 10.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi led 33-26 at halftime, but New Orleans rallied in the second half, forcing overtime when Nate Frye stroked two free throws with 34 seconds left.
Rashawn Thomas had a chance to force a second overtime, but his 3-point try with six seconds left was long.
