Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as Michigan built a double-digit halftime lead and held on for 59-52 victory over Texas on Tuesday at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.

Michigan led 53-47 after a layup by Texas' Matt Coleman with 2:13 to play before the teams traded turnovers and fouls on ensuing possessions. Abdur-Rahkman's jumper from the top of the key with 57 seconds remaining provided a cushion for the Wolverines and helped them hang.

Charles Matthews added 12 points for Michigan (9-3) while Moritz Wagner and Duncan Robinson scored 10 points apiece for the Wolverines.

Texas (6-3) got 17 points from Dylan Osetkowski, 11 points from Kerwin Roach II, and 10 points and 10 rebounds from Mohamed Bamba.

Michigan made only 4 of its first 14 shots over the first 10-plus minutes of the game but still led 10-6 because the Longhorns were even more futile from the floor, hitting 3 of 13 field goal attempts over the same period, including 0 of 5 from beyond the arc.

The Wolverines found their stride in the final eight minutes of the first half, running out to a 32-20 lead at intermission behind nine points from Abdur-Rahkman, a 51.9 percent to 30.4 percent shooting advantage and a 20-12 rebounding edge.

Texas used an 11-2 run over a five-minute stretch early in the second half to pull to within 37-34 with 14:11 to play. Michigan answered with 3-pointers from Matthews and two from Wagner to move back to a 12-point advantage at 46-34.

Texas played its first game without starting guard Andrew Jones, who suffered a broken right wrist in the Longhorns win at VCU on Dec. 5. Jones leads Texas in scoring at 15.3 points per game and will be out indefinitely.
