Bryce Brown scored 24 points and host Auburn never trailed in ending Mississippi State's five-game winning streak with an 80-75 SEC victory Saturday afternoon.
Anfernee McLemore added 14 points, Chuma Okeke had 11 and Jared Harper 10 as the Tigers (20-9, 9-7) avenged a 92-84 loss at Mississippi State on Jan. 26.
Quinndary Weatherspoon scored 25, Tyson Carter had 21 and Reggie Perry added 10 to lead the Bulldogs (21-8, 9-7), who used just seven players.
The Bulldogs enjoyed a 41-21 rebounding advantage as Perry grabbed 14 rebounds and Weatherspoon had 11, but they couldn't overcome 18 turnovers, compared to just 10 for the Tigers.
Saturday's outcome left Auburn and Mississippi State tied in a tight six-team battle for fourth place and the final double bye for the SEC Tournament.
Each time the Bulldogs tried to make a run, the Tigers had an answer, though it became a two-possession game near the end.
Auburn increased its eight-point halftime lead to 13 three times before Brown's 3-pointer pushed the lead to 49-33.
Weatherspoon scored four points to pull the Bulldogs within 11, but the Tigers answered with back-to-back 3-pointers by Samir Doughty and Danjel Purifoy.
Carter made three 3-pointers to fuel a 17-2 run that pulled Mississippi State within 71-67 with 2:29 remaining.
Brown made a 3-pointer and Weatherspoon hit a layup, leaving Auburn with a 74-69 lead with 55 seconds left.
Harper made a layup to push the lead to seven and after Carter missed a 3-pointer with 27 seconds left, the Tigers were in control.
McLemore's 3-pointer started the scoring and Malik Dunbar and Doughty each added a 3-pointer as Auburn opened an 11-2 lead.
The Tigers led by nine on another occasion before Aric Holman's three-point play started a 7-0 run that pulled Mississippi State within 18-16.
Okeke's three-point play ended the run and he added five more points as Auburn increased its lead to 28-17.
