Miles McBride finished with 20 points and five assists, and Derek Culver recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds to lead host and No. 11 West Virginia to an 87-71 victory over No. 19 Richmond on Sunday afternoon.

The Mountaineers (6-1) put together one of their best offensive performances in recent memory, shooting 58.1 percent (36 for 62) from the field and making 8 of 14 attempts from 3-point range.

McBride scored 16 points in the first half for West Virginia, which shot 65.7 percent (23 for 35) and made 6 of 9 attempts from 3-point range during the first 20 minutes.

The Spiders (4-1), with their highest ranking since 1957, had a hard time handling West Virginia's size in the frontcourt as well as its full-court pressure. Richmond committed 16 turnovers -- 12 in the first half.

Tyler Burton paved the way for Richmond with 14 points and 10 rebounds. But the Mountaineers led by as many as 30 in the second half and finished with 10 steals, including eight in the first half.

McBride was one of five West Virginia players who scored in double figures. The Mountaineers also shared the ball well, finishing with 22 assists on 36 field goals made.

Culver, who was averaging 10.7 rebounds per game entering Sunday's contest, helped control the paint along with Oscar Tshiebwe, who finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Sean McNeil also finished with 12 points and four assists. Taz Sherman made valuable contributions off the bench, finishing with 15 points and two steals.

For Richmond, Nathan Cayo, a 70.6 percent shooter entering the game, made 5 of 8 attempts from the field and finished with 14 points and six rebounds, while Blake Francis finished with 12 points but struggled from outside, making only 1 of his 10 three-point attempts.

Jacob Gilyard recorded six assists but was held to seven points. Grant Golden finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
