Evgeni Nabokov turned aside 23 shots and Kyle Okposo and Michael Grabner also scored to help New York snap a two-game losing streak in which it was outscored 9-2.

Moulson's first-period power-play tally staked the Islanders to a 1-0 lead before they took command with three goals in the second.

Tavares, who briefly left after taking a puck to the face in the first 20 seconds of the session, doubled the lead seven minutes later to extend his points streak to six games.

Okposo and Grabner built the advantage to 4-0 before Justin Abdelkader got Detroit on the scoreboard 2 1/2 minutes into the third period.

Moulson capped off the rout with 20th goal of the season with six minutes to play in the game.

The Red Wings were without star winger Pavel Datsyuk, who sat out with a lower-body injury.
