KINGS 4, CANUCKS 2: Captain Dustin Brown scored two shorthanded goals and added an assist as eighth-seeded Los Angeles took a 2-0 lead over the Presidents' Trophy winners in their Western Conference quarterfinal series.

Trevor Lewis and Jarret Stoll also tallied and Jonathan Quick made 46 saves for the Kings, who host Game 3 on Sunday.

Vancouver defenseman Alex Edler's drop pass in his own zone was grabbed by Anze Kopitar, who was denied in front by Roberto Luongo. The puck came out to the inner edge of the right faceoff circle for Brown, whose shot zipped past blue-liner Chris Tanev with nine seconds remaining in the first period for the 15th shorthanded goal in Kings history.

Jannik Hansen knotted the contest 17 seconds into the middle session when he tipped captain Henrik Sedin's shot from the blue line past Quick.

Brown victimized the Canucks again with Los Angeles down a skater exactly five minutes later, becoming the first player in franchise history to score two shorthanded goals in a playoff game.

After Vancouver defenseman Dan Hamhuis fell at the left point while attempting to keep the puck in the offensive zone, Brown picked it up along the boards in the neutral zone and raced in on a breakaway. Brown used a deke to force Luongo to the ice before lifting a backhander into the net, marking the third time the Kings have recorded two shorthanded tallies in a postseason contest.

Stoll poked a loose puck past Luongo from the left side of the crease during a power play 8 1/2 minutes into the third to give Los Angeles a two-goal advantage. The tally initially was credited to Brown, who jabbed at the puck from the doorstep before it trickled across the goal line.

Lewis made it 4-1 with 5:09 remaining as he picked up a loose puck near the right post, skated behind the net and stuffed it in at the left post.

Samuel Pahlsson scored late and Luongo stopped 23 shots for the Canucks, who went 0 for 5 on the power play.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Brown became the first player to record two shorthanded goals in a playoff game since John Madden accomplished the feat in 2006 while with New Jersey. ...
