Coyotes 2, Stars 1: Captain Shane Doan and Rob Klinkhammer scored as host Phoenix held on to avoid a third straight loss.
Mike Smith finished with 20 saves for the Coyotes, who scored four goals in their two wins over Dallas this season while netting a total of six in their two losses - one in a shootout - in the four-game series.
Jaromir Jagr scored a power-play goal and Kari Lehtonen turned aside 19 shots for the Stars, who fell to 6-2-1 in their last nine road games.
Phoenix opened the scoring with 3:01 remaining in the first period on Doan's team-leading eighth of the season. After receiving a pass from defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Antoine Vermette dished the puck from below the end line to Doan, who tapped it past Lehtonen from the doorstep.
Klinkhammer made it 2-0 at 7:31 of the second with his first career goal. Boyd Gordon made a pass from the right faceoff circle to Klinkhammer, who fired the puck into a vacant net from the top of the crease. Jagr halved the deficit late in the session with a wrist shot from the right circle.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Dallas LW Jamie Benn left the game with 1:27 remaining in the third period after taking a shoulder to the head from Phoenix C Martin Hanzal. No penalty was called on the play. ... Stars captain Brenden Morrow was scratched due to a groin injury. ... The home team has won each of the last six meetings between the Pacific Division rivals.
