Penguins 4, Jets 0: Pascal Dupuis scored twice and Tomas Vokoun stepped in nicely for the injured Marc-Andre Fleury as Pittsburgh dispatched visiting Winnipeg to pick up its 14th straight win.
Evgeni Malkin scored in his return to the lineup and Chris Kunitz added a goal and an assist for the Penguins, who are chasing down the franchise - and NHL - record of 17 straight victories set by the 1992-93 squad. Pittsburgh still is awaiting the arrival of Jarome Iginla, who was acquired from the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night.
Vokoun turned aside 20 shots to earn his 50th career shutout and second this season. Al Montoya made 39 saves for the Jets, who had their modest two-game winning streak come to an end.
The Penguins opened the scoring with 4:57 left in the first period, when captain Sidney Crosby sent a blind backhand pass right to Kunitz’s tape for a one-timer from the bottom of the left faceoff circle. Malkin made it 2-0 only 3 1/2 minutes later when a video review ruled that the puck went in off his skate but without a kicking motion.
Dupuis took a feed from Kunitz and finished off a 2-on-1 rush at 4:12 of the second. He scored his second goal while short-handed with 83 seconds left in the period, beating the defense to a loose puck and sneaking a wrist shot inside the right post.
GAME NOTEBOOK: D Douglas Murray, who was acquired from the San Jose Sharks on Monday, made his debut for the Penguins and was plus-one on 24 shifts. … Crosby recorded a pair of assists and Vokoun was credited with one on Dupuis’ second goal. … D Dustin Byfuglien led Winnipeg with four shots on goal.
