Flyers 5, Maple Leafs 3: Former Toronto enforcer Jay Rosehill scored the game-winning goal and helped knock Joffrey Lupul out of the contest as visiting Philadelphia avoided a series sweep by the Maple Leafs.

Simon Gagne, Jakub Voracek Brayden Schenn and defenseman Luke Schenn also tallied for the Flyers, who received a 25-save performance from Ilya Bryzgalov in his 21st consecutive start. Sean Couturier notched two assists to extend his point streak to four games as Philadelphia won its season-high fourth consecutive game and climbed within two points of the idle New York Rangers for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

Former Flyer James van Riemsdyk scored for the first time in 11 games while Nikolai Kulemin and defenseman John Michael-Liles added goals for the Maple Leafs, who saw their eight-game point streak (5-0-3) come to an end. James Reimer stopped 26 shots as Toronto failed to pass idle Ottawa for fifth place in the East.

With the score tied 2-2 after the first period, Brayden Schenn gave the Flyers the lead less than a minute into the second as he intercepted a clearing attempt by Kulemin and beat Reimer with a wrist shot from the slot. Rosehill scored the eventual winner - his first goal since Feb. 8, 2011 - by tipping Couturier’s shot past Reimer with 4:07 remaining in the session.

Rosehill and fellow newcomer Adam Hall sandwiched Lupul along the side boards in the first period, and the Toronto forward left the game with a concussion. Lupul assisted on Kulemin’s goal before leaving to extend his point streak to seven games (eight goals, six assists).

GAME NOTEBOOK: Lupul missed seven weeks earlier in the season with a broken arm. ... The Maple Leafs, who defeated the Flyers 5-2 and 4-2 in their first two meetings, were looking for their first series sweep against Philadelphia in six seasons. ... Rosehill's goal was his first in 47 NHL games. The bruiser, who battled Toronto heavyweight Colton Orr in the first period, had not scored since Feb. 8, 2011 against the New York Islanders while with the Maple Leafs.
