Blue Jackets 4, Avalanche 3 (OT): R.J. Umberger tied the game with 87 seconds remaining in the third period and Nick Foligno scored at 4:31 of overtime as visiting Columbus extended its winning streak to four games.
Mark Letestu and Blake Comeau also scored, Foligno added an assist and Sergei Bobrovsky made 29 saves for the Blue Jackets, who improved to 2-0-0 on their six-game road trip. Columbus pulled even in points for eighth place in the Western Conference with Detroit, which owns the tiebreaker.
Umberger slid a backhand shot between Jean-Sebastien Giguere's pads just 35 seconds after Jamie McGinn scored on a power play to give Colorado a 3-2 lead. Foligno carried the puck down the right wing on a 2-on-1 rush before beating Giguere from the right faceoff circle for the winning goal.
Cody McLeod scored twice, Ryan O'Reilly recorded a pair of assists and Giguere stopped 26 shots for the Avalanche, who have earned points in four straight contests (2-0-2).
McLeod opened the scoring at 10:57 of the second period and, after Letestu and Comeau had given Columbus a 2-1 lead, completed his fourth career two-goal performance with a deflection at 5:21 of the third.
GAME NOTEBOOK: McLeod had not scored twice since Oct. 17, 2009 at Detroit. ... Bobrovsky allowed more than two goals for just the second time in 12 starts. ... The Blue Jackets have won only six of their last 24 visits to Colorado.
