Coyotes 5, Oilers 4: Defensemen Keith Yandle and Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored power-play goals 1:43 apart midway through the third period as host Phoenix improved to 12-1-2 in its last 15 meetings with Edmonton.

Fellow blue-liners Michael Stone and David Schlemko tallied in a 27-second span during the middle period and Martin Hanzal netted his fourth goal in as many contests. Radim Vrbata notched three assists and Ekman-Larsson set up a pair of tallies for the Coyotes, who improved to 4-0-1 at home and 6-1-2 in their last nine games overall.

Edmonton's Tyler Pitlick recorded his first career NHL goal midway through the opening session before exiting with a left knee injury. Fellow rookie Will Acton, Ryan Jones and David Perron also tallied and former Coyote Jason LaBarbera finished with 22 saves.

After Jones deflected former top overall pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' shot past Mike Smith (26 saves) to give Edmonton a 4-3 lead at 7:23 of the third period, Phoenix made the most of its next two power plays to pull ahead. Yandle's point shot resulted in his first goal of the season before Ekman-Larsson's blast sailed past LaBarbera, who was screened by Hanzal.

Stone's shot from along the boards beat LaBarbera and Schlemko gave Phoenix a 3-1 lead with a point shot at 5:47 of the second. Acton trimmed the deficit 2:16 later by poking a rebound between the pads of Smith before Perron forged a tie by capping off a brilliant tic-tac-toe play with 57 seconds left in the session.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pitlick opened the scoring 9:59 into the game, as he skated up the right wing before collecting his own pass along the boards. The rookie fanned on his initial shot before flicking an attempt from a sharp angle that caromed off the right pad of Smith and into the net. ... The Coyotes' defensemen combined for seven points (four goals, three assists). ... Phoenix C Jeff Halpern suffered an upper-body injury in the first period and did not return. ... Edmonton failed to score on both power-play opportunities and is 0-for-21 in the last seven games.
