Maple Leafs 4, Oilers 0: Red-hot Phil Kessel recorded two goals and two assists to back James Reimer's 11th career shutout as Toronto romped in the opener of a three-game road trip.

Reimer made 19 of his 43 saves in the third period to post his first blanking of the season, Nazem Kadri recorded a goal and two assists and James van Riemsdyk also scored as the Maple Leafs posted their third win in four games.

Kessel had a hand in all four scores, including a highlight-reel goal, to continue a sizzling pace that has seen him pour in seven tallies and collect three assists in his last four contests. He opened the scoring 68 seconds into the game, taking a feed from Kadri on the doorstep and deking Richard Bachman for his eighth goal of the season.

Kessel set up Toronto's second tally at 1:41 of the middle session, leading a 2-on-1 rush and delivering a perfect pass that van Riemsdyk easily directed past Bachman (22 saves). Kessel made it 3-0 seven minutes later with a brilliant goal, corralling a puck off the end boards at the left side of the net and, while still behind the end line, rifling a shot up high from a near-impossible angle.

Kadri capped the scoring when he deflected rookie defenseman Morgan Rielly's shot past Bachman at 6:14 of the third period. Despite getting outshot for the 10th consecutive game, the Maple Leafs kept Edmonton winless in its last four (0-3-1).

GAME NOTEBOOK: Oilers C Sam Gagner had three shots and was minus-4 in his season debut. He has been recovering from a broken jaw caused by a high stick from Vancouver's Zack Kassian in a preseason game. ... Maple Leafs LW Joffrey Lupul returned to the lineup following a two-game absence after taking a shot off his foot in practice last week. ... Oilers LW David Perron was scratched due to illness.
