Penguins 3, Islanders 2 (OT): Captain Sidney Crosby scored his second goal of the game at 3:44 of overtime to lift visiting Pittsburgh to its fourth consecutive victory.
Crosby sliced through the defense before flicking a backhander over Anders Nilsson to send New York to its seventh consecutive defeat (0-5-2). James Neal scored on the power play, Evgeni Malkin collected a pair of assists and Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside 21 shots for Pittsburgh.
Kyle Okposo scored a pair of first-period goals in a span of 3:02 for the Islanders, who went winless on their four-game homestand (0-2-2). Captain John Tavares had two assists and Nilsson made 31 saves but was unable to hold off Crosby and the Penguins.
Okposo provided the Islanders with the opening goal for the first time in seven games when his backhander into the crease appeared to deflect off Pittsburgh's Kris Letang as the defenseman and Tavares crashed the net. Okposo doubled the lead when his slap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle caught a piece of Fleury and trickled in at 12:55.
Neal halved the deficit in the final seconds of the second period, banging home a deft backhand pass by Malkin from behind the net at 19:44. Malkin then set up the tying goal with a cross-ice pass on Crosby's one-timer from the right circle during a power play with exactly 12 minutes remaining in regulation.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Okposo has eight career goals against the Penguins, his most versus any opponent. ... Malkin, named the league's First Star for the past two weeks, has four goals and 15 assists during his nine-game point streak - the longest active run in the league. ... Crosby's second goal gave him 38 points, keeping him one ahead of Malkin for the league lead.
