Rookie Tomas Hertl also tallied and captain Joe Thornton notched two assists for the Sharks, who went 3-for-7 with the man advantage after converting just once on 13 opportunities during their winless drought. Antti Niemi turned aside 29 shots as San Jose improved to 11-1-3 at home.

Defenseman Jonas Brodin scored for the Wild, who fell to 0-2-0 on their three-game road trip. Niklas Backstrom finished with 36 saves for Minnesota, which has netted a total of four goals during its five-game winless streak on the road (0-4-1).

The Wild got into penalty trouble early and the Sharks opened the scoring 5:54 into the game. With Minnesota's Justin Fontaine in the box for high-sticking, Pavelski drilled a one-timer past Backstrom from above the left faceoff circle for his 11th of the season.

San Jose doubled its lead later in the first period with four seconds remaining on Matt Cooke's tripping penalty. Tommy Wingels blocked a clearing attempt along the right-wing boards and got the puck to Hertl, who beat Backstrom from the slot at 14:43 for his team-leading 15th goal.

The Sharks made it 3-0 early in the second during the first two minutes of Zenon Konopka's double-minor for high-sticking. Defenseman Matt Irwin unleashed a blast from the left point that Backstrom stopped, but Pavelski grabbed the rebound in the slot and fired it home at 3:42 to complete his second two-goal performance of the campaign.

Brodin spoiled Niemi's shutout bid with 7:24 remaining in the third, firing a shot from above the right circle that went in after hitting Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart in the chest.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Thornton's two assists gave him 816 for his career, putting him two ahead of Gilbert Perreault for 26th place on the all-time list. He also pulled even with Michel Goulet for 49th in career points with 1,152. ... Pavelski also scored twice on Oct. 19 against Calgary. ... The Sharks avenged a 3-1 loss at Minnesota on Sunday.
