Sharks 2, Stars 1 (OT): Tommy Wingels ended a seven-game goal-scoring drought at 1:52 of overtime as host San Jose edged Dallas.
Martin Havlat scored a goal and set up the other while defenseman Scott Hannan notched two assists for the Sharks, who improved to 2-1-0 on their four-game homestand. Alex Stalock turned aside 19 shots as San Jose completed the season series against Dallas with a 2-0-1 record.
Rookie Valeri Nichushkin netted the lone tally for the Stars, who concluded a 2-0-1 road trip. Kari Lehtonen finished with 19 saves as Dallas allowed a total of three goals on its trek.
Wingels held the puck above the left faceoff circle before passing to Hannan along the left-wing boards and cutting to the net. Hannan dished to Havlat, who slid a backhand pass around a sprawling defender to Wingels for a shot from the doorstep that resulted in his second goal in 24 games.
Neither team was able to break through during a first period that saw San Jose outshoot Dallas 9-6. The clubs were less than two minutes away from another scoreless session before the Sharks finally got on the board.
James Sheppard controlled the puck in the right corner before dishing it to Hannan. The blue-liner unleashed a shot from the right point that Havlat deflected past Lehtonen from the low slot at 18:06 for just his fourth goal of the season and second in 14 games.
Dallas pulled even at 6:27 of the third on a rare tally by Nichushkin. Defenseman Trevor Daley gained possession in the left circle after the puck bounced across the top of the crease and fed the 18-year-old, who beat Stalock from the slot for his third goal in 13 contests.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Nichushkin scored in only one of his previous 12 games, tallying twice against Toronto on Jan. 23. ... San Jose rookie LW Matt Nieto suffered a lower-body injury while blocking a shot in the second period and did not return following intermission. ... Dallas C Tyler Seguin extended his point streak to seven games with an assist. ... The Sharks made a minor trade Wednesday, sending LW Curt Gogol to Minnesota for C Chad Rau. Gogol has yet to make his NHL debut, while Rau scored two goals in nine games with the Wild in 2011-12.
