Flames 4, Lightning 1: Karri Ramo turned aside 31 shots to beat his former team and Curtis Glencross scored two late goals as visiting Calgary handed Tampa Bay only its second regulation loss in 14 games.
Mike Cammalleri recorded a goal and an assist while Kevin Westgarth also scored for the Flames, who killed off all three power plays and improved to 1-2-0 on their five-game road trip. Ramo, who won 11 contests during parts of three seasons with the Lightning from 2006-09, made 26 saves over the final two periods.
Ondrej Palat scored his 20th goal in the second period for Tampa Bay, which remained tied in points with second-place Montreal in the Atlantic Division. Ben Bishop made 21 saves as the Lightning saw their eight-game home point streak come to an end.
Cammalleri picked off a poor pass by Bishop and scored into the vacant net from the right faceoff circle 10:20 into the contest to open the scoring. Westgarth scored his third goal in seven games only 15 seconds later, sweeping in a loose puck from the right side of the net after defenseman Christopher Breen’s deflected shot.
Palat flipped in his own rebound with 4:04 left in the second period, but Ramo kept the Flames in front going into the third with a big save on Alex Killorn in the final minute. Glencross knocked in a rebound during a power play with 1:56 left and added an empty-netter with 15.2 seconds remaining.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Calgary D Kris Russell led the way with five of his team’s 24 blocked shots and added an assist on Glencross’ first goal. … Breen, playing his seventh NHL game, earned his first career point with an assist on Calgary’s second goal. … Tampa Bay D Michael Kostka was scratched due to a concussion sustained from an elbow by Montreal D Douglas Murray in Tuesday’s game. Murray was suspended three games by the NHL for the illegal hit.
