Canucks 5, Oilers 4 (SO): Chris Higgins scored the lone shootout goal as host Vancouver remained unbeaten.
After an entertaining overtime settled nothing, Higgins put Vancouver ahead by beating Edmonton goaltender Viktor Fasth in the third round of the bonus format. Ryan Miller preserved the win by stopping Benoit Pouliot on the Oilers' final attempt.
Captain Henrik Sedin and Radim Vrbata each recorded a goal and an assist while Nick Bonino and Linden Vey also scored for the Canucks, who received a 25-save performance from Miller. Defenseman Brad Hunt scored his first NHL goal for the Oilers, Mark Arcobello registered a tally and an assist and Nail Yakupov and Jesse Joensuu also tallied while Fasth made 39 saves.
Edmonton opened the scoring on a power play at 5:41 of the first period as Hunt one-timed Teddy Purcell's pass from above the circles past Miller high on the stick side. Arcobello doubled the lead less than five minutes later, finishing off a deft feed from Purcell with a crease-side tap-in.
Sedin's tip-in goal with 10 seconds remaining in the period halved the deficit, but Yakupov restored the two-goal advantage 2:22 into the second by charging hard to the net and sliding a low shot past Miller. Vrbata's power-play tally at 10:48 drew the Canucks within one after Bonino and Joensuu traded scores just over four minutes apart, and Vey's first career goal 7:06 into the third period forced overtime.
