Flames 3, Flyers 2 (OT): Jiri Hudler scored 83 seconds into overtime to lift visiting Calgary to only its second win in six games.
Hudler's one-timer beat Steve Mason (23 saves) between the pads as the Flames improved to 9-3 in overtime while moving to 2-2-0 on their seven-game road trip. Sean Monahan and Mikael Backlund also tallied, Hudler added an assist and Karri Ramo made 35 saves in the victory.
Sean Couturier and defenseman Mark Streit scored third-period goals as Philadelphia erased a 2-0 deficit before losing for the third time in four contests (1-2-1). Captain Claude Giroux notched his 300th career assist on the tying tally for the Flyers, who held a 27-12 advantage in shots over the final 40 minutes of regulation.
Hudler stole the puck from Philadelphia defenseman Michael Del Zotto at center ice and Monahan unleashed a snap shot from the right faceoff circle that beat Mason to the glove side 6 1/2 minutes into the game. The Flames doubled the lead at 4:58 of the second as Lance Bouma circled the net and sent a backhander into the crease that caromed off the skate of Streit to Backlund for an easy conversion from the doorstep.
Philadelphia cut the deficit in half 53 seconds into the third as Couturier swatted home Ryan White's cross-crease pass before an apparent tying goal by defenseman Nick Schultz five minutes later was overturned. Nonetheless, the Flyers pulled even when Michael Raffl's shot deflected off Streit and in with 11:45 to play in the session.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Monahan tallied for the fifth time in eight games to match his 22-goal total from last season's rookie campaign. ... Schultz had a goal disallowed when officials ruled that he knocked Ramo into the net, even though the puck crossed the goal line beforehand. ... Flames rookie RW Emile Poirier earned his first NHL point with an assist on the tally by Backlund, who ended his 14-game goalless drought.
