Ryan Getzlaf and Rickard Rakell both collected one goal and one assist while goalie John Gibson made 15 saves at the Anaheim Ducks earned their third consecutive win, a 4-2 decision over the visiting New Jersey Devils on Sunday night.
The Ducks, who jumped into third place in the Pacific Division standings, are dominating on home ice lately, having put together a 10-1-2 run at the Honda Center.
Getzlaf, Anaheim's red-hot captain, opened the scoring just 74 seconds into the affair. Devils goalie Keith Kinkaid made a sprawling stop on Rakell off the rush, but Devils defender John Moore sent the puck to the slot when he tried to clear it. With Kinkaid well out of position, Getzlaf made no mistake while netting his 11th goal of the season.
Jakob Silfverberg doubled the Anaheim lead at 6:37 of the opening frame. Silfverberg set up shop in front of the net and perfectly deflected a waist-high point shot from defenseman Josh Manson into the cage for his 16th goal of the season.
Kyle Palmieri put the Devils on the board with a power-play goal at 10:31 of the middle frame. After New Jersey failed on a five-on-three advantage to start the second period, Palmieri scored his 20th of the season by burying a one-timer off a pass from Travis Zajac. Palmieri has his third consecutive 20-goal campaign.
Anaheim's Brandon Montour made it a 3-1 count with a power-play goal at 7:55 of the third period, cashing in on a feed from Getzlaf.
Patrick Maroon pulled the Devils within one goal at the 10:05 mark of the third period to give the visitors a much-needed jolt, but Rakell deflected Cam Fowler's point shot just 46 seconds later to net his team-high 31st goal of the season and round out the scoring.
Getzlaf has 16 points (3-13-16) in his past nine games.
Kinkaid made 32 saves for the Devils.
The game came at a cost for both squads. Manson left late in the first period due to an upper-body injury, while the Devils lost forward Miles Wood early in the second period. Wood was checked while reaching out to play the puck, and his arm took the brunt of the hit.
