Victor Hedman's power-play goal with 56.8 seconds left in regulation Wednesday gave the Tampa Bay Lightning a 3-2 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins.
With Jake Guentzel in the penalty box for hooking Tampa Bay's Anthony Cirelli, Hedman, at the center point, blasted a one-timer from Steven Stamkos past Pittsburgh goaltender Tristan Jarry for the winner.
With less than a second left, the Penguins had what looked like it might be a tying goal, but on review it was ruled the puck didn't cross the goal line.
Alex Killorn and Cedric Paquette also scored for the Lightning, who have won three of four. Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy made 37 saves.
Guentzel and Brandon Tanev scored for the Penguins, who have lost three straight. Jarry stopped 45 shots.
Tampa Bay got the only goal of the first period. On a long shift in the Pittsburgh end that forced Jarry to make a couple strong saves, Nikita Kucherov took a shot from the top of the slot. Killorn extended his stick and deflected the puck past Jarry's left pad at 9:46.
Tanev tied it at 5:06 of the second with a singular effort. He took a shot from the left side and got his own rebound. He swooped behind the net, came out from the corner and roofed a backhander behind Vasilevskiy for an unassisted goal.
Guentzel broke the tie with 58.8 seconds left in the second on a play that involved all the members of Pittsburgh's top line.
Sidney Crosby, moving up the left-wing boards, chipped the puck over the blue line and raced to the right circle. Dominik Simon got to the puck at the left-wing boards and fed Crosby a cross-zone pass. Crosby threw a pass back across the slot, where the trailing Guentzel one-timed it from the left hash marks to make it 2-1.
The Lightning pulled back into a tie at 7:07 of the third. Luke Witkowski, from the end boards, fed Ryan McDonagh above the left hash marks. Paquette -- making his season debut after recovering from an arm injury -- redirected McDonagh's shot under Jarry to make it 2-2.
