Teuvo Teravainen scored twice and Sebastian Aho had three assists for the Carolina Hurricanes in a 6-2 win against the visiting Buffalo Sabres on Saturday.
Vincent Trocheck had a goal and two assists, and Nino Niederreiter had a goal and an assist for the Hurricanes, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Antti Raanta stopped 32 shots.
Henri Jokiharju and Zemgus Girgensons scored for the Sabres, who are 1-7-1 in their past nine games and have allowed 20 goals in their past three games.
Malcolm Subban made 19 saves on 25 shots in his Sabres debut before leaving midway through the third period with an apparent injury. Aaron Dell stopped all four shots he faced in relief.
Aho sent a backhand pass to Teravainen in front to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead at 2:16 of the first period.
Martin Necas made it 2-0 at 13:59 on a wraparound that required a review to confirm it crossed the goal line after Subban dove to get his stick on it.
Jokiharju cut it to 2-1 when his blast from the blue line deflected in past Raanta off the arm of Hurricanes defenseman Ian Cole.
Cole got one back for his side at 3:44 of the second period, ripping a slap shot off a faceoff that beat Subban glove side to push the lead to 3-1. Just 24 seconds later, Trocheck capitalized on the Sabres' defense mishandling the puck in their own end to extend it to 4-1.
Aho intercepted a Sabres pass inside the Carolina blue line and fed Niederreiter for a break to make it 5-1 at 11:42.
Trocheck was assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct at 17:47 of the second period after he hit Sabres center Tage Thompson from behind into the boards. Thompson went to the locker room but returned for the third period.
Girgensons narrowed it to 5-2 on the power play, deflecting a point shot from Jacob Bryson with 26 seconds to go in the second period.
Teravainen made it 6-2 short-handed at 1:09 of the third period. After Subban stopped Aho on a break, Aho picked up the rebound and fed Teravainen in the slot.
