Patrick Kane scored the go-ahead goal with 3:32 remaining and the Detroit Red Wings won their third straight game, topping the visiting New Jersey Devils 5-3 on Thursday.
Kane and Alex DeBrincat each had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings. Detroit's Christian Fischer, Dylan Larkin and Michael Rasmussen also scored, while Cam Talbot made 37 saves.
Nico Hischier scored twice on the power play for New Jersey, and Erik Haula added a power-play goal while appearing in his 700th game. Jacob Markstrom stopped 15 shots as the Devils suffered their third consecutive loss (0-2-1).
The Devils struck first after Detroit defenseman Moritz Seider was penalized for slashing in the first period. New Jersey's Stefan Noesen won a puck battle behind the net and Jesper Bratt collected it on the right side. Bratt found Hischier in the slot at 12:11.
Fischer and DeBrincat scored 25 seconds apart before the period ended. Fischer scored his first goal of the season at 18:09 after Andrew Copp dug the puck out of the boards and found Fischer near the net. Fischer converted his own rebound, lifting the puck over an outstretched Markstrom.
DeBrincat stole the puck near the blue line and tallied an unassisted goal with a wrist shot from the slot, his third goal this season and first since opening night.
The Devils scored a power-play goal early in the second to tie it. Timo Meier broke his stick while taking a shot from the right circle, and Haula tapped it into the net for his third goal.
New Jersey had 29 shots on goal in the first two periods, 15 more than Detroit, but the score remained knotted going into the third.
Fischer and Brenden Dillon squared off in a fight midway through the final period. Dillon got an extra two minutes for roughing.
The Red Wings converted during the ensuing power play, with Larkin banging in a feed from Kane at 9:46. It was the Red Wings captain's fourth goal.
After another brawl, New Jersey received a power play and Hischier scored again off a feed from Jack Hughes to tie it at 3-all. It was Hischier's seventh of the campaign.
New Jersey's Dawson Mercer committed a cross-checking penalty at 16:06 of the third period, and Kane scored his second of the season on a shot from the point.
Rasmussen sealed the win by scoring into an empty net with 12 seconds left, his first of the season.
